Project Officer – Counter Trafficking & Migration Programs

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is seeking a Project Officer to support its migration and humanitarian portfolio in Brazil. Based in Brasilia, the officer will work under the Chief of Mission and the Head of Programmes to coordinate key initiatives on counter‑trafficking, integrated border governance, resettlement and movement management.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and monitor the operational, administrative and financial aspects of the project in line with IOM policies.
• Provide oversight for the Counter Trafficking (CT), Integrated Border Governance (IBG) and Resettlement and Movement Management (RMM) portfolios.
• Lead implementation of activities related to combating trafficking in persons, smuggling of migrants, immigration and border management, family reunification and complementary pathways.
• Oversee and coordinate the Mission’s response to Afghan migration, including visa issuance, residence permits and community sponsorship programmes.
• Liaise with the Brazilian Federal Government, Headquarters, Regional Office and other Country Offices on humanitarian visa policies and migration projects.
• Support the Chief of Mission in planning and implementing projects with relevant stakeholders.

Required profile

• Relevant academic background in migration, international relations, law, public administration or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience in project coordination, monitoring and reporting within an international or humanitarian context.
• Knowledge of counter‑trafficking, border governance, resettlement and humanitarian visa processes.
• Ability to work collaboratively with government agencies, civil society and IOM units.
