Senior Backend Engineer – Global Bank Tribe

About the role

As a Senior Backend Engineer in SumUp's Global Bank tribe, you will help build and evolve the digital banking platform, focusing on the Brazilian segment of the Transfers and Cards ecosystem. You will work in a highly‑available, cloud‑native environment alongside a diverse, global team.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement, and iterate on backend services for money transfers and card operations.
• Support the transition from regional banking setups to a unified global banking platform.
• Maintain and improve core services using AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Enhance test coverage, observability, and monitoring for all services.
• Contribute to engineering best practices, documentation, and tool selection.

Required profile

• Excellent English communication skills for collaboration in a global team.

Required skills

• Proficiency in one or more backend languages: Go, Kotlin, Java, Ruby, or functional programming languages.
• Experience with microservices, RESTful APIs, and distributed systems.
• Hands‑on knowledge of AWS, Docker, Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with event streaming platforms such as Kafka and messaging brokers like RabbitMQ.
• Comfort working with SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Experience with CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, ArgoCD.
