Applied AI Engineer, Enterprise

About the role

OpenAI’s Applied AI Engineering team partners with enterprise customers to turn cutting‑edge AI capabilities into safe, reliable production systems that deliver measurable business outcomes. As an Applied AI Engineer you will design, build, and scale AI solutions from prototype to production while guiding customers through technical and organizational challenges.

Key responsibilities

• Identify high‑value AI opportunities with enterprise customers and translate them into technical architectures, implementation plans, and success criteria.
• Design, develop, and deploy AI systems, prototypes, evaluation harnesses, and reference implementations.
• Make sound technical decisions across models, agents, retrieval, tools, data, reliability, latency, cost, safety, security, and governance.
• Diagnose complex integration challenges, reproduce failures, test hypotheses, and drive resolutions.
• Create reusable architectures, tooling, playbooks, and guidance to accelerate future deployments.

Required profile

• Proven track record delivering AI or machine‑learning systems in enterprise settings, from prototype to production.
• Hands‑on experience writing code, building architectures, evaluating models, and debugging production systems.
• Deep understanding of enterprise production requirements such as reliability, observability, security, privacy, data governance, performance, and cost.
• Ability to connect technical decisions to customer workflows, adoption, and measurable outcomes.
• Strong communication skills with engineers, security teams, product leaders, and executives.
