Senior Counsel, Regulatory – Brazil

About the role

Mastercard Brazil is looking for a Senior Counsel, Regulatory to lead its regulatory agenda in Brazil. The role will guide the company through the complex regulatory landscape shaped by the Central Bank of Brazil, ensuring that new products and business models can be launched with legal certainty.

Key responsibilities

• Lead regulatory analysis of new products, business models, rule changes and strategic initiatives, providing early input to align compliance with commercial goals.
• Advise local and regional leadership on regulatory positioning, risk assessment and opportunity identification.
• Monitor regulatory and legislative developments, translate them into practical guidance for Mastercard’s schemes and participants.
• Manage day‑to‑day relationship with the Central Bank of Brazil, acting as primary contact for meetings, formal responses, authorisation requests and strategic agendas.
• Define and drive Mastercard’s response to new and evolving regulations, supporting the Regulatory Compliance team in implementing proportionate controls.
• Set advocacy strategy for consultations, proposed rules and policy developments, collaborating with Government Affairs and representing Mastercard in industry associations and public forums.
• Provide technical guidance to the legal team, mentor junior lawyers and oversee external counsel on complex matters.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer with substantial experience in financial regulation, payments, banking, fintech or another regulated sector.
• Proven track record in product reviews, regulatory approvals and cross‑functional implementation projects.
• Deep knowledge of the Brazilian regulatory environment and direct experience interacting with the Central Bank of Brazil.
• Strong independent legal judgment combined with a pragmatic, business‑oriented approach.
