Assistant Safety Officer

About the role

The Assistant Safety Officer supports the Safety Officer in implementing SBM Offshore’s safety management system and associated Codes of Practice. Working on offshore projects, you will help ensure that daily operational and maintenance activities are carried out safely and in compliance with all relevant regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Safety Officer in applying the Management System and monitoring compliance with Codes of Practice.
• Verify that operational and maintenance tasks meet safety requirements before work starts.
• Exercise authority to stop or question unsafe acts in line with STOP procedures.
• Coordinate safety aspects for visitors, subcontractors, vendors and other external parties.
• Support hazardous activity controls, including hot work and confined‑space entry.
• Participate in offshore emergency response drills and fire‑team activities.

Required profile

• Diploma in engineering, environmental science, occupational health & safety or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of HSE experience onshore or offshore in the oil & gas industry.
• Familiarity with international HSSE regulations and standards such as ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001/45001.
• Experience with fire‑fighting equipment, lifesaving appliances and helicopter operations.
• NEBOSH International General Certificate (or regional equivalent) preferred.
• Proficiency in English at least B1 level (CEFR) and medically fit for offshore work.
