Associate Professor – AI, Health Disparities & Environmental Health

About the role

Howard University invites applications for a tenure‑line, full‑time, joint faculty position at the rank of Associate Professor. The role focuses on advancing artificial intelligence (AI) for environmental health and community outcomes within the School of Social Work and the College of Arts & Sciences’ Department of Earth, Environment, and Equity.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and lead extramurally funded research programs that apply AI to social and environmental health challenges.
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses across both the School of Social Work and the College of Arts & Sciences.
• Mentor and supervise undergraduate and graduate students.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including the College of Medicine’s Department of Pediatrics and Child Health, to expand AI research for underserved communities.
• Contribute to the university’s AI Cluster Hire Initiative and participate in related scholarly activities.

Required profile

• Demonstrated excellence in research and teaching related to AI, health disparities, or environmental health.
• Successful track record of securing external research funding.
• Experience working at the intersection of social science, environmental health, and AI.
• Commitment to mentoring diverse student populations.
