Mechanical Engineer – US Consulate Project in Rio de Janeiro

About the role

The United States Department of State seeks a Mechanical Engineer to support an 18‑month construction project at the U.S. Consulate in Rio de Janeiro. The incumbent will ensure that all mechanical work complies with contract specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Perform technical inspections of mechanical work and monitor the contractor’s quality‑control program.
• Review and approve engineering shop drawings, submittals, and design calculations for compliance with contract documents.
• Prepare weekly and monthly progress reports, highlighting deviations and recommending corrective actions.
• Coordinate responses to Requests for Information (RFI) and evaluate proposed design substitutions.
• Monitor construction progress against schedule and ensure safety program adherence.
• Develop Independent Government Estimates for modifications and change orders.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited program.
• Minimum of seven (7) years of experience on large‑scale construction projects of similar scope and value.
• Professional Engineering (PE) license is acceptable.
• Design‑office experience does not count toward the required experience.
