Programme Assistant – Consultant

About the role

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN‑Habitat) is seeking a Programme Assistant on a consultancy basis to support the implementation of the "Urban Qualification in a Key Neighborhood of Belo Horizonte" project. The role will be based in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, and will focus on improving municipal infrastructure and social‑housing options in the Izidora area.

Key responsibilities

• Assist UN‑Habitat operational and technical teams in planning and monitoring project activities.
• Support data collection, analysis, and reporting on urban infrastructure, water sources, and housing conditions in Izidora.
• Coordinate with UNOPS, the Municipality of Belo Horizonte, and local stakeholders to ensure alignment with the Habitat Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals.
• Prepare briefing notes, presentations, and documentation for project meetings and donor reporting.
• Contribute to the development of tools and guidelines for social‑housing and urban planning interventions.

Required profile

• University degree in urban planning, geography, environmental studies, or a related field.
• Experience working on urban development or housing projects, preferably in Latin America.
• Strong analytical and writing skills in English.
• Ability to work collaboratively with multi‑disciplinary teams and local authorities.

Required skills

• Knowledge of urban development policies and the New Urban Agenda.
• Familiarity with data collection and basic statistical analysis.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
