Programme Management Assistant

About the role

The Programme Management Assistant will support the Climate Change Division’s Mitigation Branch in Brasília, Brazil. Working under the Administrative Officer, the incumbent will help coordinate programme and project activities, ensure compliance with UNEP rules, and monitor financial performance.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in planning and preparation of programme/project initiatives, tracking proposal status and required documentation.
• Review cost estimates, budgets and related documents for completeness and compliance before final approval.
• Prepare and revise legal agreements and ensure all UNEP clearance procedures are met.
• Support budget revisions, verify fund availability and enter data into the UMOJA financial system.
• Monitor expenditures against approved budgets, prepare adjustments and financial reports.
• Coordinate implementation activities, liaise with multiple units, and follow up on operational requests.
• Review reports from executing partners, including expenditure, audit and inventory reports.

Required profile

• University degree in environmental studies, international relations, finance, or a related field.
• Experience in programme or project administration, preferably within an international organization.
• Strong understanding of UN procurement and financial procedures.
• Excellent analytical abilities and attention to detail.
• Effective communication skills for interaction with diverse stakeholders.

Required skills

• Proficiency with the UMOJA financial management system.
• Budget preparation and monitoring.
• Document review and compliance checking.
