Public Information Intern – UN Information Centre

About the role

The United Nations Information Centre in Rio de Janeiro is seeking a Public Information Intern to support its digital impact strategy and events programme. Working under the Digital Communications Assistant and Partnerships Assistant, the intern will help bring UN messages to Brazilian audiences through social media, video content and outreach activities.

Key responsibilities

• Create and edit short videos, carousel posts and graphics for the UN Brazil social media channels, including adding English and Portuguese subtitles.
• Assist in planning and conducting interviews with civil‑society stakeholders to produce human‑interest stories for the UN website and social platforms.
• Support the design and rollout of digital advocacy campaigns on topics such as climate change, human rights and youth engagement.
• Contribute to event planning for UNIC Rio’s anniversary campaigns, photo exhibitions and press conferences, including partner outreach and mailing‑list updates.
• Research emerging digital opportunities and translate speeches, press releases and articles between English and Portuguese.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or having completed the final year of a bachelor’s programme, or a graduate programme (master’s or Ph.D.).
• Strong interest in United Nations work and commitment to its values.
• Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Computer literacy and experience with basic graphic‑design tools.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Canva or similar graphic‑design software.
• Competence in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Teams.
• Basic video editing and subtitle embedding skills.
