Utility Operator

About the role

BW Energy is hiring a Utility Operator in Rio de Janeiro. The operator runs and maintains engine room and utility systems to keep operations running and energy efficient, while enforcing HSE policies, Permit-to-Work procedures and safety standards. The work is done under supervisor guidance.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and monitor utility systems such as power generation (turbines/generators), compressed air, potable and industrial water, boilers and steam, HVAC, and effluent and sewage treatment.
• Perform routine inspections, basic maintenance and parameter readings, looking for leaks, abnormal noise, vibration and equipment condition.
• Take part in engine room maintenance: disassembly, cleaning, reassembly of pumps, valves, filters and heat exchangers, lubrication, tightening, alignment checks and minor repairs on rotating machinery.
• Keep the Engine Room Logbook up to date, recording parameters, deviations and events.
• Monitor oil and fuel consumption, make operational adjustments per supervisor instructions, and carry out system maneuvers and valve operations.
• Support preventive and corrective maintenance, assist in commissioning and testing of equipment, and help re-install systems after maintenance.
• Identify unsafe or critical conditions and report them to leadership and QHSE; ensure safe equipment preparation before maintenance (isolation, drainage, depressurization, ventilation, line cleaning).
• Maintain housekeeping standards, take part in training, emergency drills and keep certifications valid.

Required profile

• Technical qualification.
• Previous experience in utility operations, preferably in offshore or heavy industrial environments.
• Experience with engines, pumps, compressors, boilers and water/energy systems.
• Knowledge of power generation and distribution, boilers and water treatment, rotating equipment, P&ID diagrams and safety procedures.
