Assistant Professor – AI & Healthcare

About the role

The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Howard University seeks a full‑time, tenure‑track Assistant Professor to lead interdisciplinary research and teaching at the intersection of artificial intelligence and healthcare.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct cutting‑edge AI research focused on multimodal foundation models for clinical decision support.
• Develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in AI, machine learning, data science, or health informatics.
• Collaborate with faculty across engineering, medicine, and other disciplines to apply AI to electronic medical records and health data.
• Pursue external funding to support research initiatives and student training.
• Mentor a diverse student body and foster an inclusive academic environment.

Required profile

• Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in computer science, data science, or a related field.
• Demonstrated research expertise in AI, multimodal models, and healthcare applications.
• Commitment to high‑quality teaching and curriculum development.
• Proven ability to secure external research funding.
• Experience mentoring students from diverse backgrounds.
