Associate Professor of Dance (Tenured)

About the role

The Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts at Howard University seeks a tenured Associate Professor of Dance to begin in the 2026‑2027 academic year. The position combines scholarship, performance, and teaching within Critical Dance Studies, emphasizing African‑diasporic dance cultures.

Key responsibilities

• Teach the core Dance History curriculum for the Dance Program.
• Develop and deliver courses aligned with the candidate’s specialization (e.g., dance wellness, historical dance practices, somatics, dance technology).
• Conduct research and publish scholarship that engages Afro‑diasporic aesthetics, Black queer and feminist theory, and social‑justice frameworks.
• Mentor students in both academic and embodied practice settings.
• Contribute to departmental service, curriculum development, and community outreach.

Required profile

• Terminal degree (MFA or Ph.D.) in Dance or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated record as a performing artist, scholar, and dance pedagogue.
• Specialization in Critical Dance Studies with focus on African‑diasporic dance cultures, anthropology, or ethnography.
• Ability to teach both historical and contemporary dance forms, including West African, ballet, Hip‑Hop, and contemporary dance.
