Data Analyst – 2‑month consultancy in Rio

About the role

UN‑Habitat’s Brazil office is seeking a short‑term Data Analyst to support the implementation of its urban development work programme. The consultant will work on‑site in Rio de Janeiro for two months, collaborating closely with operational and technical teams.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in defining and calculating variables, indicators and related data for UN‑Habitat projects.
• Extract, clean, process and analyse data from public sources such as the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) and other organisations.
• Present analytical results in tables, graphs and charts suitable for reports and decision‑making.
• Develop and/or support the creation of georeferenced information and spatial data sets.
• Review and validate documents that contain spatial data and related information.
• Organise and participate in capacity‑building activities for UN‑Habitat and government staff.
• Provide technical support for data collection, production, analysis and management of urban indicators.

Required profile

• Proven experience in data analysis for urban or development contexts.
• Familiarity with Brazilian public statistical databases (e.g., IBGE).
• Ability to work independently as a consultant and coordinate with UN‑Habitat teams.
• Strong written and verbal communication in English.
