Data Assistant – Rio de Janeiro

About the role

UN‑Habitat’s Brazil Office is seeking a short‑term Data Assistant to support the implementation of its urban development work programme. The consultant will work closely with operational and technical teams in Rio de Janeiro for a period of two months.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the elaboration and calculation of variables, indicators and other data.
• Extract, process and analyse data from public databases such as IBGE and other official sources.
• Present data in tables, charts, graphs and maps.
• Create and maintain georeferenced information.
• Review documents related to spatial data.
• Support capacity‑building activities and provide technical assistance for data collection, production, analysis and management of urban indicators.
• Draft analyses of programme results from a territorial perspective to inform public‑policy planning.
• Contribute to studies on informal settlements and the programme’s territorial scope.
• Assist with monitoring, evaluation and quality control of field‑collected data.

Required profile

• Consultant hired on a two‑month contract, reporting to the Head of the Brazil Office.
• Ability to work in close collaboration with UN‑Habitat operational and technical teams.

Required skills

• Data extraction from public databases (e.g., IBGE).
• Data processing and statistical analysis.
• GIS and creation of georeferenced information.
• Data visualisation using tables, charts, graphs and maps.
• Monitoring, evaluation and quality control of field data.
