Director General – East Asia & Pacific

About the role

The Director General, East Asia and Pacific will lead the bank’s operations across the region, overseeing project identification, preparation, implementation and portfolio management. Reporting to the Vice President & Chief Operating Officer, the role is based in Shanghai and works closely with multiple internal departments and external stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Lead business development, project origination and selection for the East Asia and Pacific region in coordination with the Operations Vice Presidency.
• Build and deepen relationships with public and private sector partners, managing client relations and identifying partnership opportunities.
• Define clear criteria for project origination and selection, integrating regional macro‑economic trends and bank‑wide knowledge.
• Develop and maintain a pipeline of viable projects, reporting regularly to Operations Management.
• Prepare Country Partnership Plans in collaboration with other organizational units.
• Support project appraisal, transition from processing to implementation, and supervise project execution to ensure high‑quality outcomes.
• Collaborate with the ESG Department to monitor environmental, social, procurement and governance aspects during implementation.
• Conduct periodic portfolio reviews with governments, agencies and private sector clients.

Required profile

• Senior leadership experience in project development, finance or development banking.
• Proven ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships across governments, multilateral institutions and private sector entities.
• Strong understanding of the economic and sectoral dynamics of the East Asia and Pacific region.
• Excellent analytical and strategic planning skills, with a track record of delivering high‑impact projects.
