Director of Communications – Latin America

About the role

Smile Train is seeking a senior leader to head its Communications function across Latin America. The Director will shape and execute strategic communications that elevate the organization’s reputation, deepen partner relationships, and increase regional visibility for its cleft‑care mission.

Key responsibilities

• Design and scale the LATAM Communications function, including team structure, governance, workflows, and operational processes.
• Recruit, develop, and mentor a high‑performing communications team.
• Create annual and multi‑year regional communications strategies aligned with global priorities.
• Collaborate with Programs, Advocacy, Finance, and Global Communications to build cross‑functional operating models.
• Establish planning, performance metrics, and reporting frameworks to measure impact.
• Lead the development and execution of strategic communications campaigns with clear objectives and measurable outcomes.
• Craft institutional narratives and storytelling to strengthen reputation and partner engagement.
• Oversee multi‑channel communications, including social media, digital platforms, newsletters, websites, and institutional assets.
• Manage regional public relations and media relations efforts.

Required profile

• Seasoned strategic communications leader with experience in nonprofit, healthcare, or public‑health environments.
• Proven ability to operate in complex matrix organizations and lead regional or global communications.
• Exceptional storytelling, executive presence, and operational discipline.
• Detail‑oriented, strong listener, and able to translate complexity into clear messages.
• Experience building scalable processes and governance across multiple countries.
