Executive Director, Clinical Research Physician (GPS Medical)

About the role

Lilly is seeking an Executive Director to lead Clinical Research Physician activities within the GPS Medical unit. The role is responsible for the safety program of one or more therapeutic assets throughout their lifecycle, acting as the primary medical liaison for internal and external stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Provide leadership for proactive pharmacovigilance (PV) across assigned products.
• Conduct and oversee medical review of individual case safety reports, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and appropriate causality assessment.
• Guide surveillance activities, safety signal detection, and risk‑management actions, escalating issues to governance committees, development teams, and regulators as needed.
• Monitor safety data for impact on Core Safety Information and Core Risk Minimization activities.
• Build collaborative relationships across functions to ensure high‑quality medical evaluation of safety data.
• Oversee responses to regulatory queries related to safety topics.

Required profile

• Medical degree (MD, DO, or equivalent) with extensive experience in clinical safety and pharmacovigilance.
• Proven leadership experience in a pharmaceutical or biotech environment.
• Strong understanding of regulatory requirements for safety reporting.
• Excellent communication skills to interact with internal teams, external partners, and health authorities.
