Junior Software Development Engineer

About the role

WEX is looking for a Junior Software Development Engineer to join its Risk Engineering team. You will work on high‑impact backend services that detect, evaluate, and mitigate risk across credit, fraud, and financial operations, helping to deliver a world‑class user experience.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement, test, and deploy backend services within a micro‑services architecture.
• Apply data structures, algorithms, and core engineering principles to solve real‑world problems.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well‑tested code with a focus on correctness and performance.
• Contribute to system design decisions, including service boundaries, data models, and communication patterns.
• Build and maintain reliable, scalable, and observable APIs and services.
• Use modern development practices such as CI/CD and infrastructure‑as‑code.
• Support production systems through debugging, performance analysis, and incident response.
• Identify bottlenecks and improve system efficiency through measurement and iteration.
• Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders to translate business problems into technical solutions.
• Participate in code reviews and uphold high standards of testing and code quality.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent demonstrated expertise.
• Strong foundation in object‑oriented programming, data structures, algorithms, and core software engineering principles.
• Ability to break down problems and implement effective, well‑reasoned solutions.
• Produces readable, testable, and maintainable code.
• Can complete small to moderately complex tasks with limited guidance.
