Legal Counsel

About the role

The Legal Counsel will independently advise on legal and regulatory compliance across lending, equity investments, collections and entity management. This position requires strong autonomy, ownership of a full legal workload and the ability to coordinate external counsel.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate loan agreements, collateral documentation and inter‑creditor arrangements, ensuring enforceability and protection of Oikocredit’s creditor rights.
• Provide legal advice on equity transactions, including acquisitions, exits and ongoing corporate governance of investee entities.
• Manage collection processes and legal disputes, coordinating with external counsel and advising internal stakeholders on enforcement strategies.
• Maintain legal entities in the region, handling corporate filings, powers of attorney and general commercial contracts.
• Monitor new laws and regulations, translate them into internal guidelines and raise awareness of legal risks across the organization.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in law, preferably with a focus on corporate or international commercial law.
• Minimum of 4 years of relevant legal experience.
• Fluency in English; working knowledge of Spanish and Portuguese is a strong advantage.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and take full ownership of a legal portfolio.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a client‑service orientation.
