Marine Operator – Ship Stability & Ballast Control

About the role

The Marine Operator is responsible for monitoring and controlling the stability, position and draught of a vessel, ensuring safe and environmentally compliant operations. The role involves daily stability calculations, supervision of cargo and ballast systems, and coordination with supply vessels, standby vessels and helicopters.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain real‑time control of ship stability, position and draught.
• Assist in daily stability calculations and record results in the logbook.
• Monitor cargo and ballast control panels, inert gas pressure and oxygen content of cargo tanks.
• Track the location of supply vessels, standby vessels and helicopters and log this information.
• Respond to marine alarms according to established procedures.
• Inspect ballast and cargo valves, log checks and report faults to the Lead Marine Operator.
• Execute duties outlined in the Emergency Response Plan and manage PTW issuance, execution and closure.
• Carry out additional tasks as directed by superiors and documented company procedures.

Required profile

• Endorsement/seaman’s book complying with STCW rule II/1 and the title of Deck Officer.
• Endorsement/seaman’s book complying with IMO Circ.A.1079(28) – item 6.4 and the title of Ballast Control Operator.
• Experience on tankers or other mobile units.
• Fluent English communication skills.
