Principal Software Architect, Applications & Modernization

About the role

Hunter Douglas is seeking a Principal Software Architect to lead the design and modernization of its application portfolio across North America. You will work at the intersection of rapid business‑led innovation and the need for a stable, secure, and maintainable software estate.

Key responsibilities

• Define pragmatic architecture patterns for internal, customer‑facing, workflow, integration and AI‑enabled applications.
• Assess existing tools and decide which should be hardened, rebuilt, integrated, automated, supported, retired or left unchanged.
• Guide build‑vs‑buy‑vs‑extend decisions, balancing speed, cost, reliability, security and business value.
• Translate business objectives into technical roadmaps with clear trade‑offs, sequencing, ownership and success metrics.
• Improve reliability, scalability, maintainability, security and user experience of legacy, vendor and business‑built applications.
• Support teams in moving from prototypes, scripts, spreadsheets and low‑code solutions to production‑grade software.

Required profile

• Proven experience designing and modernizing large‑scale application estates.
• Strong ability to balance business priorities with technical excellence.
• Excellent communication skills to influence stakeholders and drive architectural decisions.
