Project Accountant – Financial Controller (18‑Month Fixed‑Term)

About the role

Our client, an international sports marketing firm supporting FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 projects, seeks a Project Accountant (Project Financial Controller) on an 18‑month fixed‑term contract. The role will be based in Rio de Janeiro, starting remotely and later moving to the project office, providing commercial and operational finance support across high‑profile sports projects.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and control client budgets, produce detailed variance analysis and profitability reporting.
• Monitor financial performance of individual project elements and prepare sensitivity/scenario analyses for senior leadership.
• Provide commercial finance support to Project Managers and Directors, interpreting contract terms and overseeing invoicing and cash collection.
• Manage weekly cash‑flow forecasts, enforce cash controls, and liaise with local banking providers.
• Ensure compliance with Brazilian tax regulations, withholding, import duties and coordinate with local advisors.
• Collaborate with international shared‑service centres for cost coding, allocation, supplier onboarding and financial data accuracy.
• Support local payroll preparation and execution in partnership with HR and professional advisors.

Required profile

• Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
• Fluent in English and Portuguese, both written and spoken.
• Proven experience in project accounting or project‑led environments, with strong commercial acumen.
• Solid knowledge of Brazilian tax law, regulations and business practices.
• Experience working in multi‑currency environments.
