Safety Plan Approval Engineer – Rio de Janeiro

About the role

The Safety Plan Approval Engineer will support the development and review of detailed safety, fire protection, and lifesaving plans for new builds, conversions, and existing vessels. Based in Rio de Janeiro, the role ensures compliance with class rules, statutory regulations, and client requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Review and approve drawings related to safety, fire protection, lifesaving equipment, and environmental control on ships, offshore units, and marine equipment.
• Assist clients during design and construction phases, providing guidance on safety and fire protection systems.
• Prepare and support detailed marine engineering plan reviews in line with RINA rules and international conventions.
• Resolve conflicts between design requirements and material standards.
• Conduct site visits, take measurements, and gather data for documentation.
• Produce technical reports, project performance documents, and engineering drawings.
• Monitor financial progress of assigned tasks and apply project‑management concepts.
• Manage simple projects and assess minor structural problems.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Naval Engineering.
• Experience with safety management systems, safety plan evaluation, or related maritime safety projects.
• Strong knowledge of maritime safety regulations (SOLAS, ISM Code, IMO, MARPOL).
• Ability to review, evaluate, and approve safety plans and documentation.
• Familiarity with fire safety systems, life‑saving appliances, and emergency evacuation procedures.
