Senior Laboratory Manager (Gold / Fire Assay / Mineral Processing)

About the role

A growing mining operation is looking for an experienced and highly motivated Head of Fire Assay Laboratory to lead laboratory operations supporting gold mining and mineral processing. The role oversees all fire assay and laboratory functions, ensuring accurate, timely analytical results that support grade control, metallurgical accounting, gold recovery monitoring and operational decisions. It also involves managing laboratory personnel and complying with quality, safety and environmental standards.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and supervise daily Fire Assay Laboratory operations and lead and develop assayers, technicians and sample preparation teams.
• Ensure accurate preparation, testing, analysis and reporting of assay results, and maintain QA/QC systems for data integrity.
• Oversee sample preparation, handling, storage and chain-of-custody procedures.
• Monitor testing programs for ore grade control, gold recovery, gravity recovery circuits, CIL, cyanide strength, activated carbon performance and metallurgical accounting.
• Keep equipment calibrated and maintained, and manage reagents, consumables and chemical storage.
• Support process optimization, metallurgical investigations and troubleshooting; coordinate support for audits, inspections and regulatory compliance.
• Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with laboratory safety requirements.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, Mineral Processing or a related field; professional laboratory or metallurgical certifications are an asset.
• Formal training in fire assay techniques and laboratory quality management is highly desirable.
• At least 5 years in laboratory operations within mining or mineral processing, including managing fire assay labs for gold mining.
• Experience with gravity and/or CIL plants is highly advantageous; remote or camp-based mining experience preferred.
• Previous supervisory or laboratory management experience is required.

• Technical reporting and documentation, high attention to detail, and effective communication.
• Proficiency with laboratory management systems and Microsoft Office.
