Tax Specialist

About the role

As a Tax Specialist within Nu's Global Service Platform, you will ensure total tax integrity across the company's operations. Your work directly influences the P&L by delivering precise tax calculations, mitigating risks, and keeping the firm ahead of Brazil's evolving regulatory landscape.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the full compliance cycle for direct taxes (IRPJ, CSLL – Lucro Real and Presumido) and indirect taxes (ISS, PIS, COFINS) under various regimes.
• Prepare and review explanatory notes for the Effective Tax Rate (ETR) reconciliation and manage deferred tax assets and liabilities.
• Oversee complex ancillary obligations such as DES‑IF, DCTFWEB, EFD‑REINF, EFD‑Contribuições, and ECF, ensuring data aligns with accounting reality.
• Act as the primary contact for internal and external tax inspections and audits, defending Nu’s tax positions and maintaining SOX controls.
• Coordinate Transfer Pricing workflows with external advisors to ensure compliance with OECD and Brazilian Federal Revenue rules.

Required profile

• Proven experience in high‑rigor tax environments with a track record of accurate tax reporting.
• Hands‑on experience in Effective Tax Rate (ETR) reconciliation and bridge building between accounting and tax.
• Strong knowledge of Brazilian tax legislation and regulatory updates.
• Ability to manage audit processes and maintain robust internal controls.

Required skills

• Brazilian direct tax compliance (IRPJ, CSLL, Lucro Real, Lucro Presumido).
• Indirect tax expertise (ISS, PIS, COFINS).
• ETR reconciliation and deferred tax accounting.
• Filing of DES‑IF, DCTFWEB, EFD‑REINF, EFD‑Contribuições, and ECF.
• Transfer Pricing methodology and OECD/RFB rules.
• SOX control environment and tax audit management.
