Senior Legal Counsel – Strategic Litigation (Brazil)

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Legal Counsel to join our Brazilian legal team. The role focuses on the strategic management of civil and other litigation, providing senior‑level advice to business units and ensuring alignment with corporate governance, risk appetite, and business objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the senior legal reference for strategic civil litigation, including judicial and administrative proceedings.
• Define legal strategies, positions and action plans that align with business priorities.
• Manage, coordinate and supervise external counsel, ensuring quality, consistency, cost control and performance.
• Conduct in‑depth litigation risk assessments and prepare strategic legal opinions for senior management.
• Drive litigation prevention initiatives, early case assessment and dispute avoidance strategies.
• Lead dispute resolution through negotiation, settlements, mediation and other ADR mechanisms.
• Oversee claims management, analyzing contingencies, provisions and potential financial exposure in coordination with Finance, Risk and Controlling.
• Provide senior‑level legal support on matters with actual or potential litigation impact.
• Identify systemic litigation risks and propose improvements to internal processes and contractual practices.
• Prepare and present litigation reports, dashboards and strategic analyses to internal stakeholders.
• Promote legal awareness and deliver training on litigation risks and best practices.

Required profile

• Law degree and fully qualified senior lawyer with solid hands‑on litigation experience.
• Extensive experience in strategic litigation management and interaction with senior internal stakeholders and external law firms.
• Strong ability to assess legal risks, define strategies and give pragmatic, business‑oriented advice.
• Excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills at senior management level.
• Proven autonomy in prioritising complex matters and leading high‑impact cases.
• Minimum six (6) years of relevant experience.
• Residing in São Paulo or surrounding areas.
• Fluent or advanced English.
