Backend Software Engineering Lead – Brazil

About the role

3M is looking for a Backend Software Engineering Lead to join its Corporate Research Digital Lab in Brazil. You will be the primary technical authority for backend services, driving the design, development, and operation of scalable, cloud‑native APIs and workflows that power intelligent automation and AI‑enabled processes.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and operate backend services and APIs for onboarding, integration, and workflow‑driven applications.
• Build service and integration layers that enable intelligent automation, tool orchestration, and AI‑enabled workflows.
• Define clean, reusable service contracts and interfaces for composable, automation‑first architectures.
• Create and maintain Temporal workflows for complex, distributed, long‑running, event‑driven processes.
• Integrate backend solutions with the Lakehouse ecosystem, connecting pipelines, metadata services, and enterprise platforms.
• Provide day‑to‑day technical leadership for an offshore engineering team, including code reviews and best‑practice guidance.
• Collaborate with global engineering teams to translate architecture into production‑ready services.
• Ensure systems are scalable, observable, resilient, and optimized for performance and cost.

Required profile

• Professional experience in backend software engineering.
• Strong background building cloud‑native, distributed applications and APIs.
• Proven ability to lead technical teams and deliver production‑grade systems.
• Experience with AI/LLM‑based automation initiatives is a plus.
