Legal Counsel – Commercial Contracts (Brazil)

About the role

Mastercard is looking for a Counsel to provide legal support to its Brazil business units, especially Customer Risk Management. The role involves delivering practical legal advice, drafting and negotiating contracts, and managing contractual risk in line with corporate objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including standard and non‑standard contracts.
• Escalate complex or high‑risk issues to senior legal team members as appropriate.
• Partner with business teams to provide day‑to‑day legal guidance on commercial and operational matters.
• Support senior counsel on complex transactions, initiatives, and projects.
• Assist in developing, maintaining, and improving contract templates, standard terms, and legal processes.
• Coordinate with external counsel and internal subject‑matter experts when required.
• Contribute to knowledge sharing, process efficiency, and continuous improvement within the legal function.

Required profile

• Law degree and admission to the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB) in good standing.
• 6+ years of post‑qualification legal experience, with solid experience in commercial contracts and negotiations.
• Knowledge of the electronic payments and financial services industry is a plus.
• Strong analytical, drafting, and communication abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple matters in a fast‑paced environment with attention to detail.
• Pragmatic, collaborative, and business‑oriented mindset.
• Fluent in English (spoken and written).

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
