Local Manager (Consultant)

About the role

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN‑Habitat) is seeking a Local Manager on a six‑month consultancy to support the "Inclusive and Sustainable Rio" project. Based in Teresópolis, the consultant will work closely with UN‑Habitat’s operational and technical teams to promote urban and climate resilience across the State of Rio de Janeiro.

Key responsibilities

• Mobilise and raise public awareness on non‑structural actions that reduce disaster risk.
• Coordinate community‑based initiatives that strengthen urban resilience and climate adaptation.
• Support the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the New Urban Agenda at the state level.
• Engage local youth and stakeholders in disaster prevention and mitigation policies.
• Report progress and outcomes to the UN‑Habitat Manager.

Required profile

• Proven experience in urban development, sustainability or climate‑resilience projects.
• Ability to work collaboratively with UN agencies, government bodies and civil‑society partners.
• Strong communication skills for public outreach and stakeholder engagement.
• Commitment to delivering results within the six‑month consultancy period.
