Process Safety Manager

About the role

BW Energy is looking for a Process Safety Manager in Rio de Janeiro to manage and support process safety activities across its assets. The role covers risk assessments, technical studies, process safety programs and Safety and Environment Critical Elements (SECEs), and supports process safety governance, continuous improvement and operational risk controls throughout the asset lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and guide the process safety process on the assigned assets, and optimise risk evaluation, risk assessment and technical studies.
• Define process safety programs and plans, assign roles and responsibilities and keep procedures, information and stakeholder communication clear.
• Define and track KPIs to sustain process safety control and continuous improvement.
• Deliver training on process safety and risk management, and maintain registers, documentation and procedures for SECEs, performance standards, assurance tasks and their degradation.
• Monitor SECE status and lead process safety policy, legislative developments and emerging best practice.
• Develop and oversee standards and procedures so that personal and environmental risks are mitigated to ALARP and comply with statutory and corporate requirements.
• Manage process safety guidance through all project phases, including documentation that meets Brazilian regulatory requirements for operating assets and projects in construction or commissioning.
• Drive workforce communications on incidents, investigations, process safety bulletins and lessons learned, and represent the company at industry forums.
• Take part in incident investigations and act as a leader, not just a consultant, in process safety.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field.
• Post-graduation in process safety.
• Solid experience in process safety management within oil and gas or petrochemical industries, with extensive experience in operation, maintenance and inspection of upstream or downstream facilities.
• Fluency in English and Portuguese, excellent report writing skills, and strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Required skills

• Expert knowledge of hazard and risk analysis methods such as HAZOP, HAZID, QRA, SIL assessments, LOPA, area classification and dispersion analyses.
• Expert knowledge of CCPS/IOSH process safety standards, industry codes, regulations and best practices.
