Remote Maths Task Engineer – $15/hr (4‑week contract)

About the role

This is a four‑week remote contract for a Maths Task Engineer who will design and implement multi‑agent benchmark tasks that require multi‑step mathematical reasoning, proofs, and algorithmic problem‑solving. You will work 8 hours per day with a required 4‑hour overlap with Pacific Standard Time.

Key responsibilities

• Build benchmark tasks involving numerical analysis, combinatorics, optimization, and statistical inference.
• Write precise problem statements with clear notation, definitions, and expected outputs.
• Develop verification scripts to check numerical tolerance, proof validity, and algorithmic results.
• Design decomposition strategies to split problems into parallel or independent sub‑tasks.
• Evaluate and improve AI model reasoning through structured benchmark creation.
• Integrate work with existing evaluation frameworks and agentic workflows.

Required profile

• Strong background in mathematics, quantitative research, or computational science (competition math or university‑level exposure preferred).
• Experience writing formal mathematical proofs or derivations.
• Ability to create objective, verifiable problems without subjective elements.
• Comfortable working independently in a structured, detail‑oriented environment.

Required skills

• Python programming, including NumPy, SciPy, SymPy or similar libraries.
• Linux/terminal workflow proficiency.
• Version control with Git.
• Docker: writing Dockerfiles, building images, debugging containers.
• Understanding of numerical methods, tolerance, convergence, and error bounds.
