Director General, East Asia and Pacific

About the role

The Director General, East Asia and Pacific leads the New Development Bank’s operations across the region, overseeing project identification, preparation, implementation and portfolio management. Reporting to the Vice President & Chief Operating Officer, the role is based in Shanghai and works closely with the OPS teams and other departments.

Key responsibilities

• Lead business development and project origination, including initial preparation and technical assistance, for the East Asia and Pacific region.
• Build and deepen relationships with public and private stakeholders, managing client relations and partnership opportunities.
• Define rationales and criteria for project selection, integrating regional macro‑economic trends and Bank knowledge.
• Develop and maintain a pipeline of projects and Country Partnership Plans in coordination with OPS and other units.
• Supervise project implementation, ensuring high‑quality delivery and compliance with ESG standards.
• Collaborate with the Public Sector, Private Sector and ESG departments to support appraisal, transition and monitoring phases.
• Report regularly to senior management on progress, regional partnerships and portfolio performance.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in project origination, preparation and implementation within the East Asia and Pacific region.
• Proven ability to lead multi‑disciplinary teams and manage complex stakeholder relationships.
• Strong understanding of macro‑economic and sectoral developments affecting development finance.
• Demonstrated track record of building strategic partnerships with governments, agencies and private sector entities.
• Excellent communication and reporting skills for senior‑level audiences.
