Director of Finance & Administration

About the role

The Director of Finance & Administration leads all financial and administrative functions for Main Street Skowhegan, a nonprofit organization. Reporting to the President & CEO, this senior leader ensures sound financial health, regulatory compliance, and supports strategic growth.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee accounting, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, cash management, and general ledger maintenance.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for leadership, board, and funders.
• Develop the annual operating budget, financial forecasts, and long‑range financial plans.
• Maintain and improve internal controls, policies, and procedures to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Serve as primary liaison for external auditors, coordinate annual audits, and manage Form 990 filings.
• Lead grant financial administration from proposal through closeout, including budget development and compliance monitoring.
• Monitor cash flow, budget adherence, and financial performance, identifying risks and opportunities.

Required profile

• Extensive nonprofit accounting experience with a track record of managing complex grant funding.
• Strong judgment, meticulous attention to detail, and ability to strengthen financial systems.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively across departments and support strategic decision‑making.
• Senior‑level leadership experience, preferably in a similar director or CFO role.
