Marine Control Room Operator

About the role

BW Energy is hiring a full-time Marine Control Room Operator in Rio de Janeiro for its FPSO, which stores and exports stabilized crude oil. The operator runs, monitors and troubleshoots marine systems such as ballast and inert gas (IG) systems, prepares cargo and ballast plans, and keeps the ship's stability and structural strength within safe limits. The role also covers environmental compliance, safety, reporting and handover.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and monitor cargo, ballast and inert gas systems, including IG venting, gas freeing and purging in line with ISGOTT and manufacturer procedures, and adjust venting according to wind conditions
• Prepare load and discharge plans, cargo calculations, tank entry and condition monitoring, and assist with Crude Oil Washing, water washing and tank preparations
• Operate tank gauging systems and perform custody transfer measurements and draft surveys in line with ISGOTT and ANP requirements
• Operate and monitor the Oil Discharge Monitoring Equipment (ODME) and pollution-prevention systems during slop discharge, keeping environmental discharge records
• Coordinate and monitor simultaneous operations (cargo, ballast, crane, supply boat, helicopter), liaise with the Emergency Response and Rescue Vessel, and monitor weather, vessel activity and shipping traffic
• Report equipment faults, generate work orders via IFS, manage permits to work, and support surveys and audits with the Marine Superintendent
• Complete daily reports, maintain the CCR shift log and give thorough handovers; train new colleagues and take part in safety meetings and drills

Required profile

• Mandatory MODU Code Ballast / Stability training and certification
• Experience on FPSOs, shuttle tankers or conventional tankers
• Fluent oral and written English
• Knowledge of SOLAS, ISGOTT, ISM Code and MARPOL
• Offshore experience in Brazil and previous work in a multinational environment are desirable
