Science Assistant (Biology) - Senior School

About the role

The Science Assistant supports the Senior School Science Faculty by preparing and maintaining equipment, materials and resources for lessons, ensuring a safe and efficient learning environment. The role assists teachers in practical sessions, maintains inventory and upholds health and safety standards in the laboratories. It is an on-site position in São Paulo.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and set up apparatus, chemicals, biological materials and other teaching resources as requested by Science Teachers
• Help organise and prepare materials and standard solutions for lessons in advance
• Maintain well-organised, tidy and properly equipped laboratories
• Assist in practical lessons when available, and make sure classroom supplies such as pencils, erasers, glue and scissors are available and replenished
• Intervene if unsafe or wasteful practices occur and reinforce lab safety rules during class assistance
• Monitor, maintain and repair laboratory equipment where possible, reporting faults to the Head of Faculty
• Update and manage stock levels of chemicals, glassware and consumables using Lab Logger, and help with end-of-year inventory checks and ordering
• Oversee the safe storage and disposal of laboratory waste, including biological and chemical residues, and advise on purchasing new or replacement equipment
• Follow CLEAPSS, IGCSE and IBO health and safety guidelines, handle, store and dispose of chemicals correctly, and keep storage areas clean and compliant

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree (completed or in progress) in Biology
• Previous laboratory experience in an educational institution (school or university) is desirable
• Solid understanding of biological preparation protocols and confidence and precision in handling reagents and laboratory equipment
• Minimum intermediate level of English; fluency preferred
• Proof of entitlement to work in Brazil where necessary
