Software Engineering Manager AI

About the role

Syngenta's Vegetable Seeds business is looking for a Software Engineering Manager AI to lead the development of products based on Machine Learning, Generative AI and Advanced Analytics. The role connects supply chain data with digital solutions and works closely with the Head of IT & Digital and Vegetable Seeds leadership to embed AI into global operations, from production and processing to quality and logistics. It combines people management, technical leadership and hands-on development, with equal importance across these areas.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute the engineering strategy for AI products, aligned with global Vegetable Seeds objectives.
• Lead end-to-end application development, ensuring reliability, security, ethical AI standards and a user-centered experience.
• Own the platform's AWS architecture and infrastructure, working with Cloud, Infrastructure and Security specialists.
• Contribute through coding, code reviews, testing and technical troubleshooting.
• Work with AI Product Managers, Data Leads, Data Engineering and the global Data organization on high-quality pipelines and AI interfaces.
• Identify deployment opportunities across the 85 countries where Vegetable Seeds operates, promoting reuse of models, components and best practices.
• Lead, mentor and develop engineers, increase team autonomy and foster continuous learning in AI.
• Manage initiative budgets and timelines, including GPU resources, cloud computing and high-performance data processing.
• Monitor AI trends such as computer vision for seed quality and RAG for internal knowledge management.
• Lead knowledge transfer from partners, including architecture, documentation and maintenance capabilities.
• Build relationships with Product, business, AI Foundry and global technology teams to resolve dependencies and negotiate priorities.

Required profile

• 10+ years of product engineering experience, including 3-5 years implementing AI/ML at enterprise scale.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, AI/Machine Learning, Engineering or a related field.
• Proven ability to apply AI to real-world supply chain, quality or production challenges in a global manufacturing or agricultural environment.
• Experience leading high-performing, distributed teams with agile methodologies; previous people-management experience is required.
• Experience managing change in large organizations and aligning technology with business objectives.
• English fluency in discussions and alignment meetings; preferred: experience moving vendor or partner solutions internally, and scaling products across regions or crops.

Required skills

• Hands-on experience with PyTorch and TensorFlow, and cloud AI services such as Databricks and AWS.
• Modern software architecture and practical AWS knowledge.
• Ability to code, review, test and debug, contributing directly to delivery.
