Technical Consultant – Participatory Workshops

About the role

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN‑Habitat) is seeking a Technical Consultant to lead a series of participatory workshops in Rio de Janeiro. The consultant will work closely with UN‑Habitat’s operational and technical teams and with the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro to support the revision of the city’s Sustainable Development and Climate Action Plan.

Key responsibilities

• Develop a detailed work plan outlining objectives, activities, timelines and deliverables for nine regional workshops.
• Coordinate logistics, stakeholder invitations and facilitation materials for each workshop.
• Lead the implementation of the workshops, ensuring active participation of residents, civil‑society organisations and municipal representatives.
• Document workshop outcomes, prepare synthesis reports and provide recommendations for the city’s sustainable development strategy.
• Report regularly to the Head of the Brazil Office and liaise with UN‑Habitat managers to align activities with programme goals.

Required profile

• Proven experience in planning and facilitating participatory workshops or public‑consultation processes.
• Familiarity with sustainable development, climate action planning and urban policy frameworks.
• Ability to work effectively with municipal authorities, civil‑society groups and UN agencies.
• Strong coordination, reporting and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
