About the role

The Applied AI Engineering team at OpenAI helps developers and enterprises safely deploy generative AI. As an Applied AI Engineer for Digital Natives, you will partner with leading tech companies to turn frontier model capabilities into production‑grade features and agentic experiences.

Key responsibilities

• Deeply embed with sophisticated platform customers, acting as their technical thought partner to design and build novel AI applications.
• Forge relationships with CTOs, AI product and engineering leaders to ensure successful, scalable deployments.
• Build targeted prototypes, pilots, and model evaluations that guide architecture decisions and product roadmaps.
• Collaborate with OpenAI’s Product and Research teams to validate emerging capabilities in real customer environments.
• Scale the Applied AI Engineer function by sharing knowledge, publishing best‑practice guides, and delivering high‑signal feedback to steer OpenAI’s roadmap.
• Evaluate new model capabilities, developer tools, and implementation patterns, translating advances into practical recommendations for customers.

Required profile

• 8+ years of hands‑on technical experience, including leading complex, production‑scale AI/ML systems from discovery through adoption.
• Proven ability to drive measurable business impact through AI solutions.
• Passion for the latest AI trends such as agent architectures, advanced prompt engineering, safety, and security.
• Strong technical judgment and the ability to make clear recommendations with incomplete information.
• Humility, empathy, and a collaborative mindset.
