Software Engineer – Athelas Home (Medical Device)

About the role

Commure is seeking a Software Engineer to join the Athelas Home team, responsible for the FDA‑cleared IoT medical device that analyses blood samples. You will work in a small, cross‑functional group that blends hardware, chemistry, and software to deliver accurate, low‑cost diagnostics.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and enhance backend and frontend services for the Athelas device, improving infrastructure and building scalable back‑end components.
• Translate product requirements into technical solutions while implementing cybersecurity best practices throughout the development lifecycle.
• Collaborate with engineering, operations, quality, and regulatory teams to ensure software meets operational, security, and regulatory standards.
• Use Python, Flask, React, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, and Docker to design, deploy, and maintain production services.
• Diagnose and resolve technical issues efficiently, maintaining system stability and performance.
• Establish and enforce best practices for code quality, testing, and continuous deployment.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent extensive experience.
• Professional software engineering experience with strong proficiency in Python.
• Deep expertise in building and managing data pipelines and relational databases such as PostgreSQL.
• Advanced knowledge of containerization and cloud services, specifically Docker and Kubernetes.
• Strategic thinker with a builder’s mindset, passionate about high‑impact projects in the medical‑device space.
• Proven ability to build, scale, and maintain sophisticated production environments with robust monitoring and reliability engineering.
