Assistant/Associate Professor – AI in Environmental Health

About the role
The Department of Pediatrics and Child Health at Howard University’s College of Medicine seeks a tenure‑track Assistant or Associate Professor to lead research and teaching at the intersection of artificial intelligence, environmental health, and community outcomes. The role supports an ongoing project on allergies and asthma and is part of the Provost’s AI Cluster Hire Initiative.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and lead an extramurally funded research program applying AI and advanced data‑science methods to environmental health and clinical allergy/asthma care.
- Supervise postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, research assistants, and lab interns.
- Design and maintain secure, efficient databases and pipelines that transform unstructured electronic health record data into structured formats for large‑scale analysis.
- Publish findings in high‑impact journals, present at national and international conferences, and secure competitive external funding.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across computational health, GIS, and medical data analytics.
Required profile
- Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g., computer science, epidemiology, environmental health, biomedical informatics).
- Demonstrated research expertise in social and environmental determinants of health using AI methodologies.
- Experience in teaching at the university level and mentoring graduate trainees.
- Track record of publishing in peer‑reviewed journals and obtaining research funding.
