Biologist Consultant for Urban Green Spaces Project

About the role

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN‑Habitat) is seeking a Biologist to support the second phase of the “Viva o Verde SP” project in São Paulo. Working under the Head of the Brazil Office, the consultant will collaborate with UN‑Habitat’s operational and technical teams to enhance the management, financing and inclusive governance of public green spaces.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in developing management and financing strategies for public parks and green areas.
• Conduct ecological assessments and provide biodiversity recommendations for urban green space design.
• Support the implementation of inclusive park governance and community participation mechanisms.
• Prepare technical reports and documentation aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals and the New Urban Agenda.
• Coordinate with the São Paulo Municipality’s Secretariat of Green and Environment (SVMA) and other stakeholders.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in Biology, Environmental Science or related field.
• Experience in urban ecology, green space planning or environmental management.
• Familiarity with UN‑Habitat processes and sustainable development frameworks.
• Fluency in English; Portuguese proficiency preferred.
