Data Engineer

About the role

1GLOBAL, a global mobile communications provider founded in 2022, is hiring a Data Engineer in São Paulo. The Data Engineering team sits within the Central Data function and owns the full data value chain, from ingestion of billing, CRM, network, product and support data through the data lake and warehouse to data quality and freshness. The role is hands-on, focused on the core lake platform, with a hybrid workplace.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement data models that ensure accuracy, consistency and reliability across raw and curated layers.
• Create and optimise ETL/ELT pipelines that ingest data from source systems into an S3-based data lake.
• Build reliable logic around Kafka topics, handling late, duplicate or out-of-order events.
• Own data transformations in dbt, with tests and documentation.
• Orchestrate and monitor pipelines in Airflow, including retries, alerting, backfills and SLAs.
• Write efficient, well-structured SQL for transformation logic and ad-hoc investigation.
• Contribute to data quality checks (completeness, freshness, reconciliation) and flag anomalies early.
• Maintain accurate technical documentation and take ownership of end-to-end flow quality.

Required profile

• 3-5 years of hands-on data engineering experience.
• Solid experience building and maintaining data pipelines on AWS S3, Glue and Athena, or a comparable stack (Spark + Hive/EMR, BigQuery, Redshift, Snowflake, Exasol).
• Practical understanding of data modelling: raw to conformed layers, dimensional modelling basics.
• Experience consuming data from Kafka or another streaming/message system.
• Strong communication skills.

Required skills

• Strong SQL, including window functions, CTEs and query optimisation.
• Advanced Python for ETL development, data manipulation and automation.
• Nice to have: Airflow, dbt, Apache Iceberg, and experience in telecom or other high-volume regulated environments.
