Head of Engineering – AWS, MongoDB & AI Products (Online Safety)

About the role

We are looking for a senior engineering leader to drive the technical vision of an early‑stage company focused on creating safer online experiences for women. The permanent, full‑time position will define and execute the engineering strategy, while staying hands‑on with architecture and code when needed.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and grow the engineering organization, including hiring, mentoring, coaching and performance management.
• Define and execute the engineering strategy in partnership with executive leadership.
• Establish engineering standards, development processes and a culture of technical excellence.
• Provide architectural leadership across backend systems, infrastructure, internal tooling and customer‑facing products.
• Own engineering planning, resource allocation and delivery across multiple initiatives.
• Build scalable systems that support rapid user growth while maintaining reliability, security and performance.

Required profile

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with prior leadership roles such as Head of Engineering, Engineering Director or Engineering Manager.
• Proven track record of hiring, mentoring and scaling high‑performing engineering teams.
• Comfortable operating in a fast‑paced startup environment with high ownership and autonomy.
• Excellent communication with engineers, executives, product managers and cross‑functional stakeholders.

Required skills

• Strong background in AWS cloud services.
• Experience with MongoDB databases.
• Knowledge of AI‑powered products, machine learning systems and data platforms.
• Expertise in distributed systems, cloud infrastructure and modern web technologies.
• Solid understanding of software architecture and system reliability.
