Information Assistant for Urban Data and Indicators

About the role

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN‑Habitat) is seeking an Information Assistant to support its Brazil office in Rio de Janeiro. The role is a short‑term consultancy (approximately two months) focused on data collection, processing, and analysis for urban and environmental programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in and support the organization of capacity‑building activities for government teams involved in the Social Territories Programme.
• Assist in the elaboration and calculation of variables, indicators and other urban and environmental data.
• Extract, process and analyse data from public databases and statistics, including those produced by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
• Provide technical support for data collection, production, analysis and management of urban indicators.
• Perform quality control on all field‑collected data.
• Analyse results with a territorial perspective to inform public‑policy planning.

Required profile

• University degree in urban planning, geography, statistics, environmental studies or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience in data collection, processing and analysis for urban or environmental contexts.
• Familiarity with public statistical sources such as IBGE.
• Strong analytical mindset and attention to detail.
• Ability to work collaboratively with UN‑Habitat operational and technical teams.
