Electric Propulsion Systems Engineer

About the role

Nidec Aerospace, a joint venture between Nidec and Embraer, is looking for an Electric Propulsion Systems Engineer to design electric propulsion systems for battery-powered aircraft. The role covers the full lifecycle, from system specification and conceptual design to detailed design, prototyping, integration, qualification and certification, within a collaborative cross-functional team.

Key responsibilities

• Capture customer and certification requirements, validate them and define the system architecture and electrical and data interfaces
• Analyse system safety and reliability, flow down requirements to equipment and interact with equipment and safety engineers
• Review equipment design against system objectives and define qualification and maturity plans
• Specify test setups and write functional, performance, environmental, electromagnetic, HALT, HASS, endurance and health monitoring test procedures
• Run qualification tests, analyse results and problems, and verify system and certification requirements

Required profile

• Bachelor's, Master's or PhD in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Control Engineering or a related field
• Minimum 7 years of experience in motor control / modelling
• Essential: experience in new product development, electromechanical propulsion or actuation systems, high-voltage motor control, requirements-based development, airworthiness certification, safety assessment (FMEA, FTA), reliability growth, ESS, HALT, HASS, endurance tests, PHM, ARP 4754A, DO-160, IBM DOORS or JAMA, and MATLAB / Simulink
• Preferred: power electronics and motor control, and safety assessment and reliability prediction
• Willingness to work with and travel to domestic and international design and manufacturing locations
