Senior Mobile Programmer

About the role

The Fortnite Technology Team at Epic Games is looking for an experienced Mobile Platform Engineer who wants to build world-class game engine technology for Android and iOS. The role works with the latest Unreal software and mobile hardware to design and implement platform APIs, guide cross-platform API development and provide robust platform support as Fortnite grows.

Key responsibilities

• Work with a wide range of Fortnite engineering and content teams to solve complex technical challenges that improve stability and quality.
• Implement and improve low-level systems that interface with platform APIs, such as memory allocators, file systems, input systems, graphics APIs (Metal and Vulkan), shader compilers and more.
• Analyze and optimize load times, memory usage and platform-specific performance issues, and the performance of the content delivered in Fortnite.
• Improve platform toolchains, including compiler/linker support, device deployment, SDK upgrades, data management tools, debugger integration and crash reporting.
• Help embrace, support, extend and enhance the engine for future hardware.

Required profile

• Strong programming background and C++ knowledge.
• Experience shipping games or real-time visualization systems, with a focus on low-level code and deep optimization.
• Experience developing for Android or iOS-based systems.
• Well-versed in software engineering principles.
• Familiarity with an existing game engine and its editor concepts.
• Experience working in a large codebase at a fast pace, balancing usability, performance and power.
• Prior shipped projects with Unreal Engine are a plus.
