Senior Non-Urban Solid Waste Streams Consultant

About the role

The Senior Non‑Urban Solid Waste Streams Consultant will work closely with UN‑Habitat’s operational and technical teams as well as the project team to produce, analyse and consolidate technical inputs required for the diagnostic of waste streams within the Rio de Janeiro State Solid Waste Plan (PERS‑RJ). The role is home‑based, lasts ten months, and contributes to strengthening urban resilience and sustainable waste management in Brazil.

Key responsibilities

• Collect and analyse data on non‑urban solid waste streams across the State of Rio de Janeiro.
• Develop diagnostic reports, scenario analyses and strategic recommendations for the PERS‑RJ revision.
• Coordinate with UN‑Habitat, state government and civil‑society partners to ensure alignment with national and international sustainability agendas.
• Prepare technical inputs for workshops, stakeholder meetings and policy documents.
• Support the project team in monitoring progress and delivering final deliverables on schedule.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree in environmental engineering, waste management, public policy or a related field.
• At least 5 years of professional experience in solid waste diagnostics, policy development or related consultancy.
• Demonstrated experience working with government agencies, international organisations or NGOs on environmental projects.
• Strong analytical and report‑writing skills in English.
